Is a erotic practice involving dominance and submission, role-play playing, restraint, and other interpersonal dynamics.
Wide rage of practices some engaged in by people who don't consider them selves practicing BDSM.
BDSM communuity and/or subculture is usually dependent on self-identification and shared exprence.
It can also be one time thing to lifestyle. BDSM or kink is sexual identity also constitutes a form of sexual orientation.
The term BDSM dates back to 1969
It is believed it was joined to gather with s&m (bondage and discipline)
s&m (sadomasochism or sadism and masochism) or as a compound initialism B&D, D&S
(dominance and submission) and s&m.
BDSM is used as a catch all phrase to include a wide range of activities, forms of interpersonal relationships, and distinct subcultures.
BDSM communities welcome anyone this may include cross-dressers, extreme body mod
Enthusiasts, animal players, latex or rubber aficionados, and others.
Because of unequal roles in BDSM it's idea of informed consent of both partners. Participants who exert sexual control over their partners are know as Dominant or tops. While participant who's receiving, or obedient role are known as submissive or bottoms.

Individuals who can change between top/Dominant and bottom/submissive roles are called switches.
Switch seen as derogatory and is rejected by many.
